ROSHANI BINTI OTHMAN was born in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia in 1978. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science) from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Master of Science degree in 2006 in Aquatic Biotechnology and a PhD in Reproductive Biotechnology from Universiti Selangor (UNISEL). Her research work focused on the mass production of selected microalgae, the development of spawning kits, the improvement of breeding selection for specific species and molecular identification for several aquatic species. She was appointed Lecturer in 2006 after completion of her Master’s programme. She later appointed Senior Lecturer in 2014. Her main research interest is genetic conservation, molecular biology, proteomics and reproductive biology. She is a project leader for research grants FRGS 1/2012 (Fundamental Research Grant Scheme), GPNS 2018 (Geran Penyelidikan Negeri Selangor) and UNISEL’S BESTARI GRANT, as well as an involved project member for several research projects under MOSTI, FRGS 1/2013, FRGS 1/2020, PRGS 2/2015, GPPSTI (Geran Penyelidikan and Pembangunan Sains, Teknologi and Inovasi Negeri Selangor), industry grant (Semesta-MBI) and UNISEL’s internal grant. She is really interested in attending a variety of symposia, seminars, workshops and conferences related to her research and engaging in the presentation of research papers at seminars.
Her innovation product was vitellogenin ELISA spawning prediction kit worn in a variety of competition inventions such as the Gold Medal at the International Invention, Innovation and Design 2018 and the Silver Medal at the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2018. Other innovation products such as Rapid Amplified Microsatellite Marker for Broodstock Selection of Channa lucius, MicroHerbs: Natural Disinfectant for the Control of Pathogenic Species in Freshwater Fish, SpiruFeed: Low Cost and Fast Growth Immunostimulant for Aquaculture Health Management and Cyanobacteria Arthrospira for Food Aquaculture and Health Foods worn in competition innovators such as Intellectual Research and Innovation Showcase (IRIS) 2019, Selangor Innovation and Creativity Exposition and Young Scientist Award 2006. She also has a variety of Intellectual Properties such as Trade Mark (2018016004) for the VitEliSa kit and copyright for several projects such as Molecular Identification of Blackwater Fish in Peat-Swamp Forest, Vitellogenin Elisa Kit for Maturity and Spawning Prediction of River Catfish and Rapid Amplified Microsatellite Marker For Broodstock Selection of Channa lucius.
