Noor Fazreen binti Dzulkafli received her Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Chemistry and Masters of Science Civil Engineering (Environmental Engineering) in Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. In 2013, she was funded by Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for her Ph.D study. Her Ph.D work focuses on investigating the mechanisms of organic matter complexation with heavy metals in tropical marine sediment.
She was awarded in JACTIM 2014 Proposal Competition and DCNS internship travel grant in DCNS, Brest France in December 2016 to March 2017. She is a member of several international society including the International Humic Substances Society (IHSS), Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) and ANALIS (Analytical Society of Malaysia).
Her research interests lie in the understanding the role of organic matter (DOM, POM, CDOM and FDOM) in controlling the contaminants in the ecosystem by using chemometric analysis. Heavy metal and polyaromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) are the main contaminants of her concern. At present, she is a team member of COSMOS-Satreps-UNISEL project (Theme 2: Chemical Characterization of Dissolved Organic Matter) and much of her analytical expertise includes the application of fluorescent spectroscopy, ICPMS, GCMS, TGA-FTIR. Her recent research project aims to identify the active binding site of DOM and several contaminants under different environmental condition and to understand and to model the dissolution kinetics of DOM- ontaminant in the ecosystem.
